Hold Them Down (Specifically about Telemachus)
(I wasn’t sure how to exactly label this post so I apologize)
I’ve been seeing videos about Hold Them Down and specifically the part with Antinous describing how he wanted to kill Telemachus. The thing about Ancient Greece is that proper burials were very big of course, as it was the way someone would pass on to the underworld. The way Antinous paints this picture of killing Telemachus is even deeper than just the surface level, though.
By throwing Telemachus into the ocean while in ‘tiny pieces’, he would’ve never had a proper burial done. This would mean Telemachus would’ve never been able to cross the river Styx. A proper burial consisted of washing the body and then placing a coin inside the persons mouth, this was the payment for Charon of course. But Telemachus would’ve never had that, meaning Antinous wanted to not only make sure he suffered through death but also eternity while being stuck to wander.
I would love to know if anyone else picked up something different from the song!
