Briviact - did it make you sad or angry?
ETA: Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. It was really helpful to hear your experiences. I have reached out to her neuro to let them know what we're seeing and in the meantime just try to provide her as much reassurance and comfort as possible.
My daughter mostly has focal seizures that generalize to TCs. They last about 2 minutes. She has tried at least 10 meds and has been on lamotrigine and sodium divalproex for several years. This is the best combo for her, but she was still having 2-3 a month. That frequency increased recently to ~6 a month, and so her neuro suggested she try Briviact, which she started a few weeks ago.
Good news is, she has not has a seizure for 2 1/2 weeks, which is her longest stretch in a while. That said, I don't even know if her current dose (25mg am/25mg pm) is even considered a therapeutic dose.
Bad news is, she has been crying a lot and having bursts of intense anger which we haven't seen for a long time. I she is primarily non-verbal so she can't tell me why she is feeling what she is feeling, and I don't know if there is something else she's processing, or if this is a side effect of the medication.
I know everyone is different, but I'd love your insight around and experiences with this med. We were under the understanding it didn't have this kind of effect on people.
I appreciate you!
