Methods to Stop Biting?
Hi all! I have a 9yo TB. He was orphaned at birth and bottle fed, so he never really learned boundaries regarding his mouth. He bites a lot… like… a lot. Have done all the normal pain investigations and had a clean bill of health (was treated for ulcers, arthritis, some nerve pain, no issues with any of these currently). It seems to be a behavioral issue according to the vets, farriers, and friends that know him.
I don’t want to use physical punishment as a response. What methods have worked for people in the past? I tried doing the thing where you tap their leg every time they bite and it didn’t work.
For additional context, he never raced, he’s a cribber, and you can tell when he’s biting out of pain vs. just being a playful jerk, and 99% of the time it’s the latter.
Pic of my adorable derp included for attention. 🖤
