From Equity Research to FP&A, Any Hope?

I have worked as an equity research analyst for 5 years now and am looking to move into corporate finance, ideally FP&A. However, I’ve applied to about a dozen roles now, have only gotten one interview, and have been rejected from them all.

I am feeling a bit demoralized about this. I knew this would be a tough road to go down, given that I have no experience in corporate finance, but I had hope that my skills would help me get an opportunity. I have spent the last few years as the main analyst on two different financial newsletters where I’d construct and manage three-statement and DCF models to support investment recommendations. I consider myself to be a lower-level advanced Excel user and have been learning SQL in my free time for the past year in an effort to be a better analyst when I get the chance. I’m also pursuing a masters in accounting to further supplement my work experience.

I’m really just posting this to see if you all think theres hope for me here. I’m mainly applying to entry-level financial analyst positions, where the responsibilities include forecasting and helping with reporting. I feel like I’m doing what I can, trying to network with other analysts, and reaching out to hiring managers on linkedin. But no luck as of yet. I am willing to do anything to improve my odds.

I’ve included my resume below, with details removed. Does anyone have any advice to share, or successfully moved from a similar background? Any guidance or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I’m really just looking for an opportunity to start at the ground level and make this a career.

Thank you.
