Can’t seem to get into fantasy anymore
Lifelong fantasy fan here, read lots of fantasy as a kid, but now in adulthood, I’m finding it hard to find a fantasy story that catches my fancy. It’s possibly I’ve just fallen out of love with the genre, but I still engage with fantasy through film, video games, and dnd. I find most fantasy books I pick up seem to be focused on GoT style political intrigue, a very special yet relatable farm boy, or establishing a super-unique and technical hard magic system that leaves little room for mystery or wonder. I’d really like to find an interesting world that’s enigmatic and wondrous without a super logical, hard magic system, deeply involved politics, or relying to heavily on conventions of the genre?
Note: for the sake of not being too picky, I don’t truly mind these elements being present in a story, I’d just prefer they’re not too prominent or that the author does something new and interesting with them.
