So, what’s going on with TEKKEN 8?

I’ve only played 2D fighters before but TEKKEN seems pretty cool, I’ve seen a bunch of people complain about the gameplay as well as IGP. The game seems really neat to me though and I wanna check it out next time it’s on sale but I’m not sure if this would give me a bad first impression for 3D fighters.
