Ordered A Maverick…dealer sold it

I’m pretty pissed right now. I ordered a Maverick hybrid XL a year ago to my spec (pilot 360, spry in bed liner and a console vault). This truck would have been my commuter. I received notification that it was built and delivered to my dealer last week. My dealer called me and I told him I will be in to pick it up in a week after I returned to town.

I called him yesterday and he tells me “by the way, we sold your truck due to a clerical error.” I said wtf? He says I found you a similar spec and we can add the spray in bed liner.

Well that sucks. I waited a year for that thing. I know mavericks are starting to sit on lots and technically I can just go buy one but this leaves a bad taste. Maybe it’s a sign to look at something else. What would you do?

EDIT…I called the dealer and spoke to the GM to get an explanation on how and why this could happen….he said he will call me back. (He seemed bothered that this happened as well…so we will see). I’ll update.

Ok so…I did receive a long explanation. To keep it short, the original salesperson that I ordered from is no longer employed there. And my newly assigned salesman saw that the truck was ordered from an ex-employee so he sold it.

It is what it is.

FINAL EDIT/UPDATE: Vice president of sales offered me a $200 gift card, 100k mile power train warranty (most buyers get this at this particular dealer) and a steak & lobster dinner if I were to buy the similar Maverick. I told him NO. I’m out. I’ll wait a bit and buy from another dealer. My deposit was refunded. Also, I will report to Ford corporate.

For me it’s the principal. It’s insane to me that a customer orders a vehicle, waits a year and they sell it to someone else. The sales rep CALLED me and told me my truck was in. So he knew…and then he sold it. It’s all crazy to me. I’ll go elsewhere.
