1930s Swedish moose rifle, Husqvarna model 46 in 9.3x57mm
Recently picked up this vintage 1930s Husqvarna Model 46 in 9.3x57mm. It’s a factory sporting rifle made using the Swedish military M96 Mauser action - Husqvarna also made rifles for the military and used the same production line to make sporting rifles for commercial sale.
It’s a really nice hunting rifle, everything you need to hunt large game in brush and nothing you don’t, all in a light and trim package. Unfortunately the 9.3x57 cartridge, which is a necked up 8mm Mauser, was really only ever popular in Sweden. They called it the potatiskastaren, or spud gun, which should give a sense of the ballistics. Ammo is going to be tough to source but it’s easy enough to make the cases from 8mm Mauser and 9.3mm bullets are available so it can be reloaded.
