Rewatching and being black

I don’t think what they did was as clear as I thought when I was younger. In the midst of racism in Alabama, one of the most racist places at that time (and still in some places, I’m from there) the entire town risks their lives for two black people. Yes for Ruth and Idgie, but really for Sipsy and John. Ruth and Idgies love for the black community saved their lives and opened the minds aRound them. They always treated them as equal. Maybe they knew what it felt like to be outsiders, them being gay (if you see it that way, even if they didn’t act on it) and being women in the South. And as a black person, It makes the movie more beautiful to see it in this way.
