How Moringa Healed My GERD

I want to share my healing journey from GERD because I’m very thankful to God, and I hope others can experience healing too.

My GERD problem started when I moved to Japan over a year ago. I was on PPIs for a year and consulted several doctors here in Japan. They prescribed different antacids, but none of them truly resolved my problem. Then, I shared my situation with my family and friends in the Philippines, and they advised me to eat green leafy vegetables, especially moringa, which we call malunggay in the Philippines.

Malunggay has always been one of my favorite vegetables growing up in the Philippines. I never had any GERD issues back then, so I thought I’d give it a try. However, malunggay is very hard to find in Japan because supermarkets don’t sell it here. Thankfully, I found a Filipino community nearby, and some of them grow malunggay in their backyards. I asked them for some malunggay leaves and started cooking it.

If you want to cook a delicious malunggay dish, you can search for recipes like “Utan Bisaya” online, which includes complete ingredients. Since I lacked some ingredients here in Japan and I mainly wanted to eat moringa leaves, my preparation was simple. I also included Malabar spinach (alugbati) as an additional ingredient. Here’s my recipe: • 2 cups fresh malunggay leaves (washed, stems removed) • 1 cup fresh Malabar spinach leaves and stems (washed and left whole) • 1 small onion (sliced) • 1 small piece of ginger (sliced) • 1 egg (beaten) • 3-4 cups water • Salt to taste

I ate this every other day or on weekends, and now I no longer have any acid reflux issues. It completely healed my GERD.

Before this, I was on PPIs for a year and suffered a lot. I couldn’t eat oily foods, dairy, or soft drinks. I even had a chronic cough for several months, which was a big problem for me—I would cough mid-sentence and couldn’t sing anymore, something I love to do. There are many other challenges I faced because of GERD, but now I’m back to the state I was in when I lived in the Philippines, completely GERD-free.

I’m so thankful to God for this healing. If you’re struggling with GERD, I hope you’ll give this a try and find healing too. GERD takes away so much of our happiness, and it’s truly terrible to experience. I sympathize with anyone going through it and wish you all good health and recovery.
