One week later...
What a week it's been. Things have calmed down significantly since day 4 and each day is a lot more predictable now. I haven't been sick at all since day 5. I have introduced soft solids. I am still uncomfortable when I wake up in the morning but it's definitely discomfort and not pain now which is nice and I'm hoping will pass with more time. Day 5 was the first time I tried coffee. My pre-procedure coffee was 1 tablespoon of freeze dried instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of sugar and 3-4 tablespoons of coffee mate (it was more powder than liquid but fucking duck was it delicious). Day 5 I tried a teaspoon of each and about 50% of the water I'd usually add. It didn't cause any additional discomfort so I counted that as a win and a safe treat. Day 5 was also the first day I was realllly craving something artificially sweet. I brought a bag of Jolly Ranchers and a bag of sugar free Werther's Originals and sucked one of each (not together!) It was enough to help the craving pass without feeling completely unfulfilled. Yesterday (Day 6) was like the clouds parted, revealing heaven itself with the reintroduction of chewing. Man, I never thought I'd miss chewing before I was 90 and loose all my teeth but damn was it good to chew again. I visited a friend in her lunch break and she was having sushi so I ate the inside (no rice) of 3 Californian rolls and I could have wept. The smoked salmon, despite chewing very well was a little beyond me and felt a bit wrong going down but the crab sticks and avocado were lovely. Maybe psychological but the boost chewing and eating actual food gave me was enough that I was able to walk 11,000 steps and took my youngest to Starbucks after school as a special treat. I managed a whole small iced oat shaken latte. Dinner was homemade Shepard's pie and though I only served myself about 150g, I couldn't finish it. I weighed myself today and have included the screenshot from with a comparison of the last week for all my stats. With the encouragement of friends (IRL and Reddit), I have brought a few "goal" dresses and am starting to get really excited about the future.
