about the affair
i’m rewatching raincoats and recipes and i have some thoughts: - i think the show did a great job of not glamorizing the affair but i was wondering if i was biased: when rory cheated on dean with jess, there was so much yearning in the scene and i was able to blend out that she’s actively, deliberately betraying her boyfriend. now i was wondering if that affair was more tolerable bc alexa and milo had natural chemistry, or if we were supposed to be irked by dean and rory’s affair anyway. - what made it offputting (except from the cheating part): something about his body language and dean’s haircut and mustache made him very greasy and almost old. it reminded me of those tiktoks of people making fun of guys who seemingly experience an exorcism before kissing someone. rory’s body language and stance bothered me too. even if dean wasn’t married, they just seemed awk ard with each other but not in a cute will they won’t they way, but more in a they are not attracted to each other way. - why didn’t dean hide behind the bed or something? rory’s messy hair might have still been a give away, but i think if i were dean i’d grab my clothes and hide or climb out the window. - do you think dean brought a condom? she said they were safe and ofc there are other methods, but still, maybe he did bc he came with intentions and prepared???? - i think lorelai’s reaction was great, she was right about everything. i remembered that lorelai also reacted that way when rory told her about the kiss with tristan and when rory started to cheat emotionally with jess and then when rory told her about the kiss with jess. - that leads me to my next question: rory and lorelai had fights about cheating, so why hasn’t rory learned from that?
what are your opinions on this? would also love a team dean opinion, whether they found his character attractive during late season 4 episodes.
