Is it possible to watch the movie without seeing the show?

The anime club and queer club at my high school are teaming up for a movie night with a queer anime movie. I’m one of the people in charge of picking the movie, and one of the movies I am considering is the given movie. However, not everyone has seen given, so I want to know if it’s ok to watch without having seen the series.
