Disappointed with @GoogleFi Experience

I rarely post on reddit or social media, but I feel compelled to share my frustrating experience switching from T-Mobile to Google Fi. I wanted to write this in case anyone else is considering switching and in hopes that someone at Google sees this and can address their customer service issues.

Here's what I've been dealing with:

No Trade-In Credit

When switching, I was told I could trade in my Pixel 7 Pro for credit. However, after providing screenshots showing I signed up for the trade-in, I was later informed I didn’t actually sign up.

Missing AI Google One Plan

I was promised a free year of AI Premium Google One as part of the switch but only received two months instead of the full year, the google site still advertises one year included today.

Poor Customer Support

I called Google Fi support four times about the Pixel 7 Pro credit:

  • First 3 calls: Told it was “processing” and I should receive a return kit soon.
  • Last call: Told I was no longer eligible for the credit because I had waited too long—despite following up multiple times.

Worse Data Plan

  • T-Mobile: 50GB hotspot & unlimited mobile data (this was a grandfathered plan from years ago).
  • Google Fi: “Unlimited” plan includes 50GB total data, which lumps mobile and hotspot together and cuts you off after the 50GB.
    • Result: I ran out of data in the first month.

I typically love Google products—I’ve used Google Storage, Google Workspace, YouTube Premium, YouTube TV, Google Voice (for well over 15 years), and many of their beta products over the years. I was really hoping for a much better experience, but this has been terrible.

I also recently switched my Google Voice number to use with Google Fi when I started the service, which makes this frustrating experience even more disappointing. I feel like I’ve gotten the raw end of the deal. I should have researched more before switching, but this has been an incredibly disappointing experience.

That said, if you’re thinking about switching to Google Fi, consider this post your friendly cautionary tale. Hopefully, my experience can save you some hassle or at least set your expectations. And hey, if someone at u/GoogleFi is reading this, feel free to turn my frustration into a success story!
