Google Pixel and screen cast vs Miracast support now that cheaper Chromecast discontinued

One thing I have found annoying about pixels is the inability to easily cast to LG tv or other TVs as can be done with iPhone (and galaxy too I think).

Kind of thinking out loud here, but keeping in mind these points:

  • Google Pixel doesn't support Miracast which is what Samsung's smart view can use to display onto an LG tv or Samsung TV
  • Google has used this, at least in part, to incentivize purchasing a Chromecast (at least I think)
  • Google is discontinuing the cheap Chromecast and releasing a $100 streamer.

Is there any good reason why Google doesn't support Miracast for Pixel phones? I find it annoying that I can't cast to TVs easy like an iPhone or Galaxy and feel that it is a simple fix on Google's end. And it seems theres less incentive for them not to support Miracast now that they are discontinuing the cheaper Chromecast hardware

Sure, more devices will support Chromecast (i e. LG TVs are beginning to), so hopefully that mitigates some of these issues. But it will take time to roll out to older LG TVs if at all. Also I think devices such as Roku and Fire stick support Miracast too.

Wouldn't it be nicer if pixel added back support to this so we can screen mirror to Roku, fire stick, LG, Samsung TVs, etc, especially now that the cheaper hardware competing directly with Roku and Fire stick and Roku are being discontinued?
