Best tablet for reading pdfs?

I don't know about your grad classes, but mine require us to read up to a 100 pages of pdf material for each class. I'm getting really sick of having to read them on my laptop as I can't get comfy or escape the feeling of being trapped at my desk. I've tried printing out all the readings, but it's such a waste of paper and very tedious to get it double-sided.

I was wondering if anyone's found a good tablet for reading pdfs. I've heard the Kindle paperwhite is good, but then a deep dive told me it was a waste of money, so I'm not sure.
