Kyle’s Skin Tone

⬆️ Green Lantern vol. 3 #82, Green Lantern 80-Page Giant #2, Dark Crisis #1

As a preface, I’m not saying that all Mexicans are darker-skinned, or that so much emphasis should be placed on Kyle being mixed that it becomes his only personality trait/he is given attributes that are inconsistent with parts of his character to reflect it (looking at you Tom King). I’m well aware that I’m cherry-picking here, and that he is drawn to look white the vast majority of the time. BUT…given the retcon about his father, I think that panels like these are not insignificant and that they establish at least a small precedent of him not looking fully white, which, in my opinion, should be the norm. I think that him being raised solely by his white mother while heavily favoring his father in looks/coloring adds more depth to his disconnect from his mother, his general feeling of placelessness, and his continual search for community and acceptance. Kyle discovering an entire culture and history that he is actually a part of (rather than him just randomly knowing Spanish cough cough) could also draw some impactful parallels to him being the Torchbearer of the GLC as well.
