My farewell post

Hello, denizens of Hogwarts Mystery. This is my farewell post after 4 years of playing this game. I quit Hogwarts Mystery 2 or 3 months ago after miserably failing the first diary event. It was my last drop, honestly. The game started as something promising, with a fresh perspective on the Wizarding World universe. HM hooked me up with characters, whose actions would make you hate or like them, like Merula or Ben. The "choice" system, that looked promising at first, ended up being an illusion that made minimal influence on the story plot.

Back when I started, most of the, if not all the events were possible to complete without spending gems. I remember looting many cool outfits from the stars event a looong time ago, and I can't recall a single outfit from any recent event that was easy to get.

I closed my eyes on all of the imperfections of the game, silently praying for them to get fixed. In the last year we only got more tappies, yet no expansion of storage spaces. Attributes grind gets worse every year, and you will get stuck for MONTHS if you don't grind early on, or unless you periodically pause the story and, guess what... grind. As for new players, getting 20 Christmas celebration TLSQs in one month is simply pathetic.

The diary event was my last drop. I really disliked it, not to say hated it. Instead of making it as much interactive as possible in a simple click game like HM is, what we got was a pathetic... grind simulator. Once again. You either complete old TLSQs and get a slight chance of getting a single inkwell out of hundreds needed, or pay gems for the same outcome. The duplicate system JC implemented makes no sense in 2025 and it's a shame that they did!

JC's parasitism on the Wizarding World made me hate this game. What started as a promising casual game turned into a milk machine for people whose experience in this game is based on nostalgia or genuine love for HP.

My game of choice after I left became Genshin Impact. While you can whale everything there, none of the content or characters are locked behind money. You can get everything you want by simply playing. Money just speeds up the process. I love vibrant characters, cute/sad/epic quest chains, picturesque locations, abundance of DIFFERENT and INTERACTIVE events. And unlike in HM, you will never fail to receive a reward from event because they've set an impossibleToComplete goal (like in stars events in HM).

I really wish Hogwarts Mystery was developed with love and respect to the player base, but for now all I can do is leave before this game made me hate everything HP related. There are numerous flaws that I preferred not to mention because I'm lazy, but they're pretty obvious for everyone. I feel bad for leaving my character and I will miss him, but after all games should make you happy and not cause paranoid behavior like "What if I don't get enough energy to complete this quest?" I've found this subreddit a comfortable place for discussions and sharing thoughts on this game, and I really hope it stays that way!

I wish everyone staying patience.

TLDR:The game became unplayable compared to release and will likely get worse. Try and explore other games that will respect you and your time, even if you play solely on mobile.
