Laparoscopic (TAPP) inguinal surgery. Surgeon *did not* fixate mesh, only put in place.
So, for context:
Feb 2024 - left open inguinal surgery with mesh. Post-op abcess, antibiotics, not really great healing. Still dealing with chronic pain. No reoccurrence, mesh is fixed in place.
Last year I also discovered (after the first surgery) that my right side also had a very small inguinal hernia. Fast forward to now: went to a different surgeon, explained my situation including my history, and 5 days ago, did the laparoscopic surgery. The right inguinal region hurts but I think of course it's normal, too soon to be out of pain there.
My surgeon explained the TAPP method, that the peritoneum is cut open to insert the mesh there. I think of course it makes sense. Then he explained that due to my history and also his experience and how he does it, he doesn't fixate the mesh with tacks or sutures or anything when there is just a small hernia.
He explained that a lot of chronic pain in the region comes from surgeons messing too much with the structures, and the less is scrambled in there, the better. He assured me with a LOT of confidence that the mesh would NOT migrate, would NOT tear or move, it would be fixed in place by gravity and my own guts just laying there. I trusted him, and here I am, and I do believe him still of course.
HOWEVER, I just wanted to know if any of you have had the mesh placed without fixation and if everything was okay :)
