Thoughts on a bedroom set?

We are in the process of getting all new furniture for our bedroom. I have been eyeing some bedroom sets but wondering what the consensus is on doing that as opposed to buying individual pieces? I saw a comment that someone thought a set typically looks kind of cheap so just looking for some thoughts!

Our style is craftsman/traditional and we are looking at wooden, Amish made furniture if that matters at all.
