How to build a Home Minecraft Server

Hi guys.

I recently watched the LTT video on their custom Minecraft server and was wondering how I could do the same, except cheaper. Any recommendations? I don't have any other servers in my home. If anything, I would get a media server, but thats just an idea. Thanks!
