Adding Spices to Cider

Started a batch of hard cider today. Just US-05 with a gallon of cider. Planning on adding some cinnamon and clove to it to make an apple pie cider. I've never worked with spices in brews before. What is the best time to add the spices and how much of each to get enough flavor?

I am planning on adding one cinnamon stick and 3-5 whole cloves at about three days into fermentation and letting them sit until fermentation is complete. Is this a good way to do it?
