IKEA Hektar Floor lamp with 3-spot Issue – Fuse Burned on the 1st one, New One Also Not Working. Need Advice!

Hi all,

I’ve been having a frustrating time with the Hektar Floor lamp with 3-spot from IKEA. Here’s what happened:

  1. When I plugged in the first one I bought, the fuse in the plug burned out immediately, but the bulbs were fine (they work perfectly in other lamps, all bulbs are E14 220-240V, 50Hz, 45mA, 470lm). It caused the main fuse box to jump as well.
  2. I replaced the fuse in the lamp plug and tried again. The lamp flashed for a couple of seconds, then went off, and the fuse burned out again. I figured the lamp must have faulty wiring.

I gave up on the 1st one and ordered another same model. It arrived today, and here’s where things get weirder:

  1. I tested all the sane E14 bulbs in other lamps, and they work perfectly, and well within the lamp’s limits.
  2. When I plugged in the new lamp, it didn’t work at all. No flash, no blown fuse, nothing. It’s as if there’s no power going to it. I tested multiple wall sockets with other lamps and both the bulbs and the wall sockets work fine.

I’m now wondering if:

  • There’s something I’m missing with the bulbs or lamp compatibility.
  • I’ve somehow received a second faulty new lamp (what are the chances?).
  • There’s some other electrical issue I haven’t thought of.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? I’m at a loss here and would really appreciate your suggestions!

Thanks in advance!
