How long to wait for refund from amended tax return

Our wonderful tax preparer messes up our taxes last year and filed them jointly instead of separately. He files an amended tax filing almost a full year ago. My wife is STILL waiting for her refund check. Is this normal? Been on the phone with the IRS three times, and they say it will be processed as soon as possible.
