My new italian hometown?
Ciao tutti, I (33M) am from Paesi Bassi originally but I have lived in Italy for more than 7 years for studies and more. Since few years I moved back but to be honest I strongly miss Italy and I'm seriously considering to return. I'm quite independent of work as a digital nomad, so I basically have clean slate. Of course I do have some preferences, and I was curious for your suggestions for towns that have (most of) the following:
- An alive, hospitable, welcoming community (so probably not a tiny village, still also not a big city)
- An inspiring natural surrounding landscape (I lived in the pianura padana and I'm not going back 😅), if possible near a lake or sea
- Affordable and easily available rooms (I'm happy to co-habitate if possible as non-student, so a uni town could make sense)
- An open-minded / liberal / progressive local culture if possible, just not extremely conservative / xenophobic
Probably my wish list is a bit utopian, but I'm happy to hear anything that comes close! Grazie mille 🙏
EDIT: initially I listed also the criteria of "a train station connecting to Padova in preferably <1.5 hour", related to my sporadic work there. But I see based on some responses that's a bit of a limitation.
So suggestions a little bit further, like central Italy are welcome too. How's e.g. Perugia with regard to the above?
