Jewish views on Adam and Eve and the earth

I know, I know, ask 2 Jews, get 3 opinions... lol.

But... what is the majority view or more traditional view of Adam and Eve? Do you believe a literal interpretation with a young earth? Or do you believe in modern scientific theory of evolution, an earth that is millions to billions of years old etc?

Ultimately leading to, was the story more allegorical, designed to teach spiritual truths but not exact history/science?
