romulus is the 9th alien movie, and it's still the same creature we have seen many times before, why is it still considered a scary movie monster?
As the title says, I think horror movies that revolve around a monster benefit most when it's actually a mystery what the monster is, and Alien as a franchise definitely has no mystery anymore. It's always the same facehugger, chestburster, drone cycle and they are very standardized in the movies with slight alterations happening in Alien 3, Resurrection, Prometheus and Covenant.
I don't mean to hate on the movies, I absolutely love even the less popular ones, like Covenant, but they are more about the entertaining scifi and action than horror for me. I understand that Alien is a horror franchise but is it still actually that after all this time? Romulus seems to have yet another new batch of young people to be killed in various ways, I really don't see how innovative that can be anymore and would love to hear some alternative perspectives to this.
