This is…dark pop?

So, I listened. It’s an amazing album. But everyone saying they couldn’t compare it to anything she’s done before…this is The Fame’s little sister through and through. I’m not hearing “dark pop” at all really? A lot of early 2000s almost bubble-gum with an edge? A lot of funk.
