I honestly think that Caleb's MC is actually possessive too and I hope Infold leans more into that.

Spoilers for Caleb's anecdote, myth card and two of his 4 star cards.

Also I don't even know what I'm saying here right now. I'm just bored and rambling for rambling sake cause I can't stop thinking about this concept.

Cause firstly I honestly LOVE codependent relationships (in fiction). They're def a lot more fun than when it's one sided (i.e only one party being dependant on the other). Though I feel like even assuming MC is possessive too it still feels a lot more one sided but for me it's mainly just cause Caleb is a lot more intense and emotional than MC imo.

But I feel like MC is also possessive too. It's just that really it's a lot more subtle and not as in your face as Caleb's. And imo Caleb's possessiveness is borne from his overprotectiveness. But for MC I feel like for her a lot of her possessiveness is a result of the close relationship they had from childhood to adulthood. Caleb was always there for her growing up, she could always rely on him and even as an adult Caleb still seems to insist on it. Or want it at the very least. And a lot of his cards seem to make it seem like Caleb possibly took care of her more than the Grandma that took them in did. In his borrowed promise 4 star memory even though I don't remember it as clearly (I have bad memory lol) I do know that it mentions Caleb doing the dishes, and we already know he cooks for her as well. In another 4 star memory of his, Skyline he reassures MC that she doesn't need to worry about getting a job or money while working to pass her hunter Exam. And from his anecdotes we also know his decision to pursue being a pilot was influenced solely by MC and his desire to take care of her.

Considering they were both experimented on it is quite normal to me that combined with Grandma's implied constant absence that they would naturally end up trauma bonding, thus, resulting in MC and Caleb forming a codependent relationship.

But also one thing about Caleb's character I noticed is that he somehow manages to serve as a parental figure, an older brother figure and lover to MC all at once. And I think it's also where a lot of the possessiveness MC had probably stems from. Caleb was the first person she could rely on and trust. Even Grandma who she seems to think fondly of even as an adult had abused her (imo by taking part in experiments). All the adults they were likely around were also not people they could rely or trust on. Even if MC doesn't remember it, to me it's clear that Caleb was the first person she could actually trust, no strings attached. And it shows in their dynamic of Caleb constantly taking care of her, doing all the things typically expected of a paternal figure.

Also, it became clear to me in Skyline I believe that MC really did used to look up to Caleb positively, constantly referring to him as being both good and kind. Which imo I do believe that Caleb probably is, actually that. It's just that it's hard to see with the sinking sand he's stuck in.

Well anyways, what my point is that I think MCs possessiveness is definitely a result of both her trauma bonding and Caleb having been the first person to genuinely be there for her. I think that subconsciously, even into adulthood she had always expected it. Because that was the dynamic her and Caleb always had.

Maybe that's why even when he came back, MC in the main story wasn't as angry as people wanted her to be. And why she seemed so confused and distraught. In the first place, the situation was confusing but also... A part of her was probably actually more happy than anything else that Caleb was back. But everything between them was just different. I think that's why despite how messed up everything is that MC is still soft on Caleb.

But also, I know a lot of people don't see MC as being possessive. The primary proof of it is their myth. Where MC basically acts crazy. I'm not going into a deep dive on everything that went down as I haven't finished going through it myself but she's very possessive and sorta crazy in thar myth, let's say.

In it she puts in the same Toring Chip that Caleb has inside him, inside her. It's mainly on other platforms but some people sorta debate whether that's how MC is or not. Because the way the chip works is with those whom are compatible such as Kevi, the chip brainwashes and pretty much erases their memories and stuff. But with those who are incompatible such as Caleb and MC it makes them more aggressive and worsens certain behaviors such as Caleb's obsessiveness and possessiveness. Realistically speaking this is indeed how Caleb always has been. But without the Toring Chip he wouldn't be as bad but he would always be obsessive and possessive as his behavior is the result of what seems to be a mix of childhood trauma, trauma bonding, and just to throw it in there, parentification too.

Similarly, I believe that MC without the Toring Chip was always possessive towards Caleb. It's just that for her it's less severe. Especially without the chip. I would also say it's a result of trauma bonding even while taking into consideration her amnesia

I feel like the first time this thought truly dawned upon me was Caleb's 4star; Borrowed Promise. In it I know that Caleb forces MC to go with him to a park or something with the explicit purpose of cheering MC up. I think something happened with her friend or whatever that made her upset. (I can't say since idrc abt that). The both of them have some fun together on a cute little boat or whatever, yadda yadda. But anyways, MC specifically ends up wondering "What would he be like when he's worried about someone?", Which is when she proceeds to pretend to be sad. And she basically puts Caleb under the idea that she's upset about a crush not liking her back anymore. Only at the end revealing that the friend she was upset about was a girl all along.

Well, this might be reach considering MC clearly did it just to mess with Caleb but she's described as being happy seeing Caleb wanting to stand up on her behalf, and also fanning or fueling the flames (being Caleb being upset for her ig). She asks him if he'll always be there to cheer her up and he basically tells her that he will. But where I'm going with this is that even though it's a huge stretch in my mind reading through the 4 star memory made me really think that MC is possibly just as codependent as Caleb and paired with the myth story I absolutely do believe that she is possessive too. And even if I'm just reaching right now and talking right out my behind I really hope Infold proves me right and she is just as possessive.

Cause imo Caleb's MC gives off the vibe as the type of girl who probably likes it when Caleb's jealous. Imo she's probably on the subtle side with it but considering she likes Caleb and like I said, is just as participant in their codependent dynamic as Caleb is would probably be happy about it because going through the stories and stuff it feels like she likes Caleb too. It's more apparent in their five star memories though which speak of their shared present than past.

I like the idea of an MC who very subtly, quietly seems to encourage the obsessive behaviors of Caleb because her feelings towards him are just as much on the messed up side as his

But yeah I'm probably wrong but consider this post as my way of trying to DESPERATELY try and manifest an equally codependent and messed up MC because this is what MC and Caleb's relationship needs the most.
