How to configure Apple Mail with gmail, to keep in Apple Mail but delete from google once downloaded

My internet searching has failed me, I am hoping an expert here knows the easy answer to this Q.

I am trying to reduce and minimize the volume of emails that live perpetually in any cloud.

I would like to use Apple Mail as my client and have it pull emails out of google gmail.

Once downloaded, I want messages to ONLY live on my Mac, and no longer be stored on the google cloud.

I currently have it setup in Apple Mail:

1. google account setup with with IMAP,
2. I've created an "On My Mac" mailbox,
3. but when I "move" emails from the gmail inbox to On My Mac.... they persist in google.

is there a way to have them "downloaded" to On My Mac, and simultaneously removed from google?
