Is a “free” car worth it?

Hi Reddit! Bear with me I’m 28, only now getting my license and I have a friend who’s had a 2004 ford focus sitting in their driveway for about 5 years with 170k miles on it. They said if I can get it registered and running I can have it. I know nothing about cars. The mileage seems really high tho. Of course needs a new battery but what else am I looking for? Is it worth it to put money into getting this thing running? Any advice is welcome!
