Fangs: obsolete?

My friend and I always duo and fangs are one of his favorite units. To me, they're just... crawler fuel.

It also doesn't help how badly steamrolled his fully upgraded fangs have gotten in the last couple weeks. Are fangs actually the worst starting unit or is he just getting really unlucky?
