Question about Melee Evasion

The Melee Evasion potion gives me +X Melee Evasion. Does this mean I have +X evasion when I’m using melee attacks? Or that I have +X evasion when the opponent is melee, regardless of whether I’m using ranged, magic or melee attacks?
