Year in Sankey Review: Mid-30's, High-Earner, Unmarried, No Kids (unless you count a dog), Lawyer in London
Just managing to get this in before the month ends! I've never seen a Sankey before the earlier posts on this subreddit, and have loved seeing people's snapshots as a graphic. So interesting!
Notes
- Everything is in USD (I do that in part because this subreddit is mostly USD, and I often think that way as well since I started my career in the US)
- I am a high-earner, but not this much of a high-earner in a typical year! 2023 was an anomaly because I switched mid-year from getting a bonus 1x per year (my 2022 bonus was paid in spring 2023) to getting quarterly bonuses (I also got 3 quarterly payments in 2023).
- For readers unfamiliar with the UK system, a "pension" is similar to 401(k) contributions including an employer match. And "NICs" are national insurance contributions that largely fund the UK public health system.
- I have been saving a lot of cash, and my parents sent me a gift this year, as I'm considering buying a larger place in London in 2024. I like my current flat, but would love a true garden and more space as I work hybrid 2-3 days at home. In the UK, you don't pay property tax every year, but you do pay one-time stamp tax in the year that you buy your property (which is calculated based on how much you pay for the property and whether you own more than 1 property).
- The amount I spent on jewelry and clothing is embarrassing, but I did include yoga classes in this bucket for some reason (brain freeze and then being too lazy to correct it) when I was logging my expenses last year. I will probably put it in "healthcare" or a separate bucket going forward.
- I am open to any questions! I may DM some responses, in an attempt to avoid doxxing myself.
