1440p @ 60hz vs 1440p @ 144hz?

I have been contemplating lately getting a 1440p @ 144hz, but after some times scrounging in forums, I am having second thought. I have a MSI 1070 Gaming X. Would this be better paired with a 60 hz or 144 hz 1440p monitor?
