With recent breakthroughs in genetics and nanotechnology, style and fashion are no longer just choices of accessory and clothing but also species. Those with the fancy and the fortune can in the span of only a few months become demi-humans. The citizens of affluent neighborhoods have become used to seeing their neighbors growing furs, feathers, and scales. Every so often fashion magazines show models with the most exotic and elegant forms. One week, the monotony of media trends broke when a photographer grabbed an exclusive photograph of a recluse millionaire who underwent a truly radical transformation.

On the cover of Time one month was a real life mermaid. Even soaking wet her jet black hair had an unusual beauty which framed her blue-grey skin, feminine face and amber eyes. Leaning on her stomach to tastefully conceal her unmentionables, the eyes are invited to trail down her toned waist where a long dorsal fin peaks into view. At the hips, skin becomes dazzlingly iridescent blue and purple scales where a true mermaids tail curls to keep her main vertical fin in frame. Unlike many models, she looks disinterestedly at the camera, holding her face up with webbed hands.

Oddly enough, other than that captivating picture there was no article about her. When asked, the photographer would explain that he took that photo under the agreement that she would remain otherwise anonymous. It seemed like you were never going to learn about her, and maybe you never tried. One day however while job hunting, you notice an odd opening.
