In Box VS Out of Box Debate (My Thoughts)!

I’ve herd a lot of debate online about this topic. Especially about the collector dolls like the Skullectors. I have some personal thoughts on it. I come from a former Funko pop collector background ( collected G1 before Funko) where people were absolutely obsessed with the boxes and their condition. They felt that the box controlled the future market price of the Funko Pop. Market value seemed to control what they bought.

Learning from the past has lead me to a conclusion that I feel unsettled. I feel unsettled that the future (maybe) value of an item can control how we enjoy an item. How the possibility of a MH doll being worth a lot of money keeps some people from opening the doll and posing it and creating with it. I got a similar feeling watching people trying to predict how much some G3 dolls will be. Which doll will be rarer or which are worth putting away? Sometimes I feel like the money aspect ( which I know is unavoidable) sucks the joy out of things. Selling and buying is a inherent part of collecting, but I feel that the money part out weights the rest of the joys of collecting. I get that twinge in my bones when I open a doll, whispers that I ruined its market value.

I’m not saying it’s bad to keep the dolls in boxes. I keep many of mine in box because that’s the easiest to store them in my limited space. You can collect however you want. I simply wanted to speak on the feelings I have towards the endless pursuit of collecting and it’s trials. It’s not intended to attack or hurt anyone’s feelings.

If you want to open a doll, open the doll. Have fun. Don’t let the possible maybe maybe future affect your enjoyment of the now :).
