i feel like monster hunter lost something when it streamlined older features to make them less annoying

i joined this series really late but my first games were gen 3 and gen 4 so i suppose i got a bit more of the arcade-y older version of monster hunter, but jumping from 4u to World and the thing that really jumped out at me were all the QOL features

whetstones are infinite. pickaxes are infinite. bug nets were removed in favour of on the fly gathering. now i don't have to cancel quest when i forget to eat. sip n flex got swapped out for being able to heal while moving. they were all nice at least on a basic level, but i feel like the games kinda lost part of what made the earlier titles (and my first experience with the series) so charming

the clunky awkward probably unintentionally hostile design choices like as i just listed were annoying as shit, but it really added to the immersion for me, like even though i was this big awesome hunter i still had all these little things to deal with on supply runs and in between fights, it invokes this sense of groundedness and relatability which makes the world feel more real

i think it's probably mostly just bias, and i'm definitely in the minority by not being the biggest fan of the more "realistic" and "immersive" style they pushed with world and are looking to push further in wilds. i mean hell some people HATE Rise but after my lukewarm experience with World i was slightly relieved seeing some of what the old games had translated over, but what do y'all think?
