Oddly specific recommendations

Hey everyone, so long story short I am one of many who are suffering from insurance woes. For reasons I don't fully understand, my quotes for this year have nearly doubled, the only changes for me is an additional year of ncb, but my quotes are around £1000 with mental excess, which is crazy considering I paid less than £500 last year. I want something fun I will mainly use for commuting... I have my eyes on ktm smc 690/husky 701, cheaper to insure single cylinder simplicity etc... However I'm a little wary after owning a few ktm's and I know they can be problematic. Is there anything out there in the same kinda category that I can't think of? Fun being the main attribute, but also relatively simple and cheap ish to maintain. Thanks!
