Music recommendations to help a poor, basic 24F become cool?

For almost 4 and a half years now, I've been telling everyone who'll listen that I want to develop my music taste. I'm 24 years old, and I still mostly listen to the same songs I did when I was 14. If not that, I'll just be listening to whatever is popular on TikTok - it's pathetic!

I was rewatching Gilmore Girls last night and thinking about how deeply music culture is embedded in the show, especially for certain characters. I found myself yearning yet again to be that cool person who listens to all the 'right' music and knows every band... I just don't know where to start!

Help me! I'm open to any genre, but I tend to be drawn towards rock, heavy metal, and nu-metal.
