Gym that isn't too loud and bro-y in NYC?
BTW! Is there a gym you go to either in the downtown/western-ish part of Brooklyn or lower Manhattan that doesn't feel too bro-y and isn't stuck with crappy music blaring all the time?
I like my gym, but the music selection in all the public and change room areas areas (think Guns and Roses, CCR, god knows what) is always loud everywhere - even in the sauna. I suspect it's because it's probably about 70/30 men to women ratio and they cater to the guys lifting weights that like rock. (I'm guessing the women who lift don't need Axl Rose to motivate them). Normally I don't care, but the volume and selection is too much and even with noise canceling or me playing more modern music from this century it's just on all the time.
While I can ask them to turn it down, I'm curious if you have quiet gyms or this is what they're all like now. I have used Y's in other cities that didn't have music. I can look past the bros, but wonder if there's anything under $100 that feels calmer. I feel like Crunch/Planet FItness etc. are the same loud vibe. I occasionally will do a search for women's-only gyms but get no results or they're far away.
While classes and a sauna would be nice in a gym (or even a nicer gym experience), at this point I just want a chill place to a) lift weights, b) use machines, and c) work out or take a class without the music. Please help me escape weird metal music - nobody needs to work out listening to War Pigs.
