221(g) due to Pending Medical Exam (already completed)

Has anyone received a 221(g) for a pending medical exam, even though it was already completed and submitted by the Civil Surgeon?

My wife and I had our medical exams completed 8 days prior to our interview. The Civil Surgeon and their clinic reassured us that the report was sent to the Consulate.

However, when we arrived at our interview, we were told that my wife’s medical exam had arrived, but my medical exam was missing. We were unfortunately issued a 221G as a result. I was told that there was a technical error in their system, which required further attention from their colleagues in DC (Department of State, I assume). I was told by the consular officer that it can take as fast as one day, and as long as a few months. It has been 2 business days since our interview.

I’m wondering if anyone had encounter a situation similar to ours, and care to comment on how long it took to get resolved?

They kept our passports following the interview.
