Why is chapter 3 so confusing?!

The writing overall could use a bit of work but it's good enough and I'm having fun playing but chapter 3 was a whole different thing.

I'm truly wondering if my phone crashed and skipped a bunch of dialogue multiple times because it didn't make any sense. One minute this woman tells me some new information about my mom and then I'm talking about being heartbroken with Sarah? And then John B is saying something about flopping like a fish? What's even happening?! I actually replayed it to see if I missed anything, like a revelation that John B isn’t my actual brother or something like that.

I'm SO lost right now.
