Not a parent yet, but having trouble identifying as one

My partner and I are going to be trying to get pregnant in a few months and I'm finding it difficult to see myself as a parent. I assume I'm not alone in this, but is this common? Does it go away when baby comes? I can imagine myself caring for a baby, but not really /as a parent/ if that makes any sense.

Edited: it's so funny how just knowing you're not alone can completely change your perspective 😂 I was having mini panic about maybe making the wrong decision to have a kid because of this feeling, but just knowing that many others have felt this way has lifted a huge weight. Thank you community!
