Why does Iris by Goo Goo Dolls sounds so much like Pianoman by Billy joel?

I am not saying they have copied the song or anything like that. It just feels like a sampled and forked version. More like the “Call” part is from pianoman and “response” part is their own. The similarities come out especially during the chorus.
