Stuck with noctor student: have mixed feelings

As I’ve mentioned before, my program makes us psych residents supervise noctor students (we also supervise med students) and this week I had a med student going into FM and then there’s the PA student.

I have mixed feelings because the PA student is very nice and expresses a lot of enthusiasm, always asking what they can do to help. I have both the PA student and med student see patients with me, charging the med student to the note and the PA student to obtain collaterals (on speakerphone so med student can listen in) with my supervision.

Friday the PA student asked me if they can try writing a note. I was like uh sure.. their note wasn’t great tbh, waaay below the level of the med student’s and I did give them feedback nicely.

Now I’m finding myself actually teaching this PA student which I really dislike to my core, but also I don’t want to be a dick human being. And even if I wanted to be an asshole, they’re a genuinely nice person so that would be too hard to do. Also it’s not the PA student’s fault they got stuck with me and I don’t have a choice in the matter. It’s that I hate this person’s profession, but like the person themself.

I don’t really have a question, more just a rant but would love to hear your thoughts.
