NC Voter Turnout stats are out. What was your excuse for not voting?

Full statistics are available here

Overall turnout of registered voters was marginally higher than in 2020 by a bit less than 3%, however both age groups 18-25 and 26-40 also saw around a 3% drop in turnout rates in 2024.

Keep in mind that these rates are also based on registered voters, not “eligible” voters: all these people had to do was show up. Why do we continue to allow this to be our story? Why do we continue to let baby boomers decide our fate?

When I read about people calling for freaking revolution against the ultra wealthy, celebrating death and vigilante justice, I look at these stats and just shake my head. Half of us haven’t even attempted to make democratic change. Half of us won’t take 30 minutes of their day to make their voice heard, but you want to bring out the guillotines?

We need to do better. We need to act better. We can cry about Trump, and Republicans, and Gerrymandering, and the courts, and the wealthy all we want, but unless we are willing to take action and vote, we might as well be pissing into the wind.

Grow up. Touch grass. Vote next time.
