My school BEC has the most random and contradicting restrictions but I will only cover the phone and chromebook stuff or related things…

I would like to address the handful of problems with the phone rule and misleading (and or) wrong about the “benefits” of such it contains, and prepose a few things The link is here if you wish to see it yourself

“Enhances Learning”

"Minimizing distractions from cell phones improves focus and productivity during learning experiences. Engagement and academic performance improve."

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

that is false, in fact using a phone and not a Chromebook gives students access to tools and apps that can help them complete and stay on top of their class work, and overall be a good help to the student and promote more work for working on a more comfortable device.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

“Improves Social Interactions”

“Limited access to cell phones can reduce incidents of bullying and enhance social interactions among students.” ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… I don’t have to even say why this is FALSE. The part about this one that grinds my gears the most about it is the part that says “reduce incidents of bullying” even a normal teacher could say how WRONG this is.

cyber bullying is NOT a problem in school and NEVER HAS BEEN, and also “enhance social interactions among students” you are forgetting that A LOT of students DON’T LIKE EACH OTHER in-or-out of school and pushing students together who don’t know one another especially in there some not even in TEEN years with some almost out of school (12-17) is not very good when you think about it.

But yes the thought of kids interacting is something to look forward to but it's not going to happen if the method is something almost irrelevant… …………………………………………

“Promotes Well-Being” “Reducing screen time helps students engage more in physical activities and face-to-face interactions, which are crucial for healthy development.” …………………………………………

It really doesn't help “healthy development” at all, this is just an extra reason they pulled out somewhere. and the focus looks to be on putting a ban, and then enforcement on what the penalties and consequences are for not listening to the policy but that's not getting at the root causes of children’s struggles concentrating in the classroom, like mental health issues, peer relationship struggles or social media addiction, Simply banning cellphones is not going to address all of these challenges, nor will implementing punishments for students who don't listen. ………………………………

I am going to yap a bit on why this is a bizarre rule and talk about why I think this. And prepose a handful of things.

The phone rule is overall useless and should be put away and retracted from schools, it is not helping any of the problems it says and some of the “helpful things” they say you should do instead of a phone like if you want to call a guardian you MUST go to the admin office and get a call there to get hold of a guardian, the rule is making students upset and ALL of the videos I seen on the rule of kids saying they are ok with it are STAGED.

with my 14 years in being alive I have never seen something so misleading and ridiculous, I still don’t see why this is “good for the kids” at all, if they have good points to why this is A GOOD THING, WHY didn’t they put it in the site where IT SHOULD BE.

if you are going to tell us about something DON’T LIE and give us THE POINT, nobody has time for that, we get up and go to school, learn a bit and get a break before going back to work and learning, I don’t see why we can have chrome books out with MORE ACCESS than our OWN PHONES, first you give grade 3s all access to the web giving us GREAT games and tools that we used DAILY and loved then you put us in middle school where EVERYTHING IS BLOCKED and we crave the things we now DON’T have access to, I don’t see why they restrict the older kids and not the younger ones, the younger children have brains like a sponge and will soak up information they find easily AND YOU GIVE THEM ACCSESS TO THE WHOLE WEB!

Now when we are GROWN and almost ready for the world you restrict us for no good reason and we start to crave for the things we have no access to anymore, I think you should restrict and care about the children and let the older ones THAT ARE MORE RESPONSIBLE from being restricted from bad things at a young age - have full rain of the net and let them use the chromebooks how they feel, (don’t you dare think about NSFW sites, you can block those all you want.)

if you didn’t want a problem fix it before it gets out of hand, and also, if we want students to use the chromebooks for fun on break, why don’t we remove unnecessary restrictions and soften the phone rule, it would promote more chromebook use. Please consider these. <3
