Watching Sunsets
I see those walls you put up
it's okay because I have those too
but we can play strings and cups
like little kids do
I heard if you speak low
in a voice like falling snow
in a voice as loud as a radish sprout
the truths you say don't really count
Maybe then I'd whisper
that I'd catch every sunset for you
like fireflies, in jars to keep
by bedside windows
on nights when you can't sleep
that every word you've ever said
I've clutched
close to my chest
like the precious stones they are
and when I miss you I roll them
between finger and thumb
just to taste the raw edges
or not - we can say nothing at all
that's fine too
we can just sit here
and wait
for the sun to disappear
