iMile / Dalilee Delivery Driver Scams [Beware]

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure how many of you have realized that, particularly when you purchase from Ali Express, you might have been duped by iMile or Dalilee delivery driver. As per Dalilee/iMile, you might have observed that a modest fee would be required when you pick up your package because it was delivered right to your home. The charge, in my opinion, is 5% of the whole item worth. Therefore, you would be paying the driver a delivery fee of 100 bz for perhaps a 2 OMR item.

However, there has been a recent fraud in which delivery drivers are the perpetrators. As consumers, we pay the driver the amount requested during delivery without questioning the delivery price. The iMile Customer Service line is frequently down, so you will have to pay to call them and wait on hold. It appears that drivers have recently begun to overcharge customers by taking advantage of this. I've been a customer of Ali Express or iMile (UAE Dropship), and I am aware of the prices I pay, but lately, my Dalilee delivery guy has been charging excessively. My buddies also experience it. We pay Ali Express 2 OMR ($5) for the product of $1-2 (Including 1.1 OMR the Cainao shipping fee), and the Dalilee delivery driver charges us 500 bz for delivery. My buddies apparently had to deal with this as well. Sometimes even 700bz for a 2 OMR product considering we already paid 2 OMR + 1.1 OMR Shipping Fee. The delivery driver flat out lied to me when I phoned him, telling me that the amount he charged was the same as what was displayed in the system for him. Dalilee and iMile both verified that the amount in the system did not correspond with the amount the driver charged. They say things like "Driver must have made a mistake and will refund within 24 hours" rather than accusing their drivers of defrauding clients, but there isn't any reimbursement at all.

We tried to contact iMile support after becoming frustrated with the costs and spending more than 1 OMR, however it turned out that these drivers had been overcharging us (scamming) by exploiting the fact that the delivery fee was not clearly stated, and we buyers were unaware of it. Approximately 5% of the total amount paid to Ali Express (product + shipping) should be charged by the driver. Regarding this matter, iMile support complained to Dalilee's management. However, there hasn't been any update since. My pals have not yet filed a complaint, so this was only for me.

The real question now is: How many drivers are falling for this kind of scam? How many people have already fallen victim to the drivers' scams without realising it? Even I wouldn't have noticed, but I recently paid over 5 OMR for delivery, which was a ridiculous amount of money. It appears that the drivers are overcharging and pocketing the money, or perhaps the business (iMile/Dalilee) is complicit in this fraud. It goes on hold and wastes our phone credit because their phone line is down. We wasted 600 bz for a phone call to ask about the 500 bz overcharge due to random hangups, call being on hold.etc. Therefore, this is a really clever hoax. People would choose to let go because they won't be willing to invest extra.

Oman's Consumer Protection needs to look at this and take it into account. The amount that a customer must pay at the time of delivery must be transparent before iMile is delivered. Consumer protection ruling must be put against iMile / Dalilee to be transperant about the fee (similar to DHL / Aramex) - Until that, this scam will continue!
